Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada has been making meaningful, professionally supported matches between adult volunteers (Bigs) and at-risk children (Littles) in our community since 2001. The impact of the program can be seen each year during high school graduation. 86 percent of age-eligible Littles graduate high school, compared with 65 percent of their similarly disadvantaged peers in Washoe County. In support of the mentoring programs, BBBSNN is hosting a fundraising event on August 11th called Over The Edge.
We also had a special guest on the show, Maila Nakumara, who told us about her community involvement and the benefits of a big sister.
