10-8 Mike Bosma sits down with Alan Rock of Cosign Furniture

Alan is a Reno- Sparks native, graduated from Sparks High And University of Nevada. He started working in his dad’s drug store (Dick Rock’s Ideal Drug) as a kid learning the retail business from the ground up.  After his father’s retirement in 1988, Alan continue to manage that business until it sold in 2002. Alan was also Washoe County Planning Commissioner for 12 years and a Regional Planning Commissioner for 8 years during the 80s and 90s.

After the sale of the store, he sold cars for Lithia Subaru for about three years then when to work for Longs Drug as a store Manager. Three years later the opportunity to open Consign Furniture came along. In 2008 Alan and his team started Consign Furniture in a small 8000 sf building on Moana Lane and after a year had outgrown that space and moved into a 17,000 sf building on Market St. After another year we leased the rest of that building bringing the space to 23,000 sf. After four years in that spot we purchased the current 32,000 sf  location at 6865 Sierra Center Parkway. In 2011, they leased a 17,000 sf building in Post Falls Idaho and opened a second store there. That store also grew very fast and at the first of this year purchased a 56,000 sf Ashley Furniture Building six miles up the freeway in Liberty Lake WA. and moved the store there. In 2015 Consign Furniture leased a small 3000 sf building at 155 Glendale in Sparks for our Consign Appliance store. Therefore, at this time we operate the three stores under the LLC.
